Grant for BRRA
BRRA has been awarded a Grant by Blaby District Council towards the cost of a new round of competition jumps. The new jumps will enable BRRA to have a full set of competition standard jumps for the first time. Until now the Association has had to rely on the goodwill of the Blaby Mill Stables and Glenhills Stables. Both venues will continue to be used by BRRA for the increased level of competition and will continue to be used for all entry level and coaching events which are still proving to be very popular.
BRRA turnout to support beauty queen
For the second year running members of the Blaby Recreational Riding Association escorted the Blaby beauty queen Jenna Owen through the village on her way to opening the Blaby Gala. Jenna was driven on her journey in a pony and trap driven by Tess Naylor a member of the Leicestershire Carriage Driving Association. Accompanying Jenna was Linda Hudson dressed as the Blaby Courier Rider and a dozen members of the Riding Association. The procession was organised by Blaby Parish Council, who also carried the obligatory health and safety risk assessment of the route and the riders were kept safe by constables and specials of the Blaby Local Police Unit. One unusual aspect of this year’s procession was that most of the passing cars and vans were sporting England flags in celebration of the world cup. In spite of the fluttering of the flags all the horses behaved themselves and the riders arrived safely at the park, where Jenna declared the Gala open.
