Blaby Recreational Riding Association Blaby Recreational Riding Association (BRRA) was set up in 2004 to serve local horse riders in the Blaby area. In recent years Blaby has seen a big increase in the number of livery yards and the number of riders. The main driver for the increase is the location of Blaby on the urban fringe of Leicester City with plenty of open space, which includes the Soar and Sence Green Wedge. With the support of its members, BRRA has been able to provide ‘grass roots’ competition including clear round jumping and clear round cross country, funding raising for charity and taking part in the procession at Blaby Gala. BRRA is run by the Committee, which is elected at the Annual General meeting held in November. There are no restrictions on who can be a member of BRRA or who can take part in the events it organises. If you would like to join or you would like any information about the Association, please contact us with your questions. Bridleway activities One of the main areas of activity for BRRA has been to explore the potential for improving the off-road riding network in the area. Like many rural areas, previously quiet country lanes have become commuter routes, raising danger levels for riders. Members of BRRA have been active in the Leicester Access Forum, working towards improving riding routes in Aylestone Meadows (part of the Soar and Sence Green Wedge). The Bridleways sub-Committee of BRRA has recently begun an investigation into the potential for riders of parts of the old Great Central Railway line which runs from the Green Wedge almost as far as Lutterworth. BRRA is appreciative of the support it has received from the County Council in its investigations. Naturally, BRRA members are sensitive to the ecological potential of the routes they are investigating and believe that the careful design and management of riding routes can enhance their ecology. |
